If you're stopped for suspicion of driving under the influence
in Kansas you're likely to be asked to submit to two kinds of
breath testing.

The first type of breath test you're likely to be asked to take
is a preliminary breath test (a.k.a. PBT).  A PBT is an initial
breath test used to help the officer determine if there is
probable cause to arrest you.  The results of the PBT cannot
be used at trial to prove your guilt, it can only be used to
prove that there was probable cause to arrest you.

The second type of breath test you're likely to be asked to
take is a Evidential Breath Alcohol Test (EBAT).  This is the
test that the prosecutor will use to try to prove that you were
driving under the influence of alcohol.  Most law
enforcement agencies in Kansas are now using the
Intoxilyzer 8000 for EBATs.
